3 channel wi-fi module - ESP8266 (08:50)
Hardly a technical test! but thought I'd share my first day with Martin Harizanov's brilliant 3 channel wi-fi module. The module does far more than described here, I'm only scratching the surface, but thought that I'd concentrate on it's MQTT features, and try and gain some reassurance that the module would integrate and operate efficiently alongside a Raspberry Pi over MQTT, especially at times of heavy network traffic and Raspberry Pi processing. In the video, using MQTT QoS1, I switch relays on and off at 500mS intervals (that's 120 MQTT messages per minute) at the same time as streaming a HD video from the same Raspberry Pi - all over wi-fi, and the module still manages to switch as regular as a metronome! The poor Raspberry Pi was also processing energy & weather data in emoncms, as well as running node-red, and my blog, so I'm pretty impressed with how it all performed. The module can be purchased direct from Martin Harizanov - https://harizanov.com/shop/ or from the openenergymonitor shop - http://shop.openenergymonitor.com/control-nodes/ here in the UK.
